Keyed alike cylinder questions
What does keyed alike mean?
Keyed alike cylinders are set up so the same key operates every cylinder in the set. This builder lets you create a matching set of Shield Hardware 1 Star euro cylinders for your doors.
Can I mix key/key and thumbturn cylinders in different sizes?
Yes. You can combine key/key and thumbturn cylinders in any of the sizes available in the builder. Measure each door separately and use the measuring guide beside the size selector. For thumbturn cylinders, check which measurement is on the thumbturn side.
How many keys come with my set?
A new keyed-alike set includes five keys for the whole set, rather than five per cylinder. Cylinders ordered to match an existing key code do not include keys. You can add extra keys in the builder.
Can I add cylinders to my set in the future?
Yes. Keep the key card supplied with your cylinders. Choose “Match to my existing Shield Hardware 1 star cylinder” and enter the six-digit code to order additional matching cylinders. This service is for the compatible Shield Hardware 1 Star range.
Where do I find my key code?
Your six-digit key code is printed on your Shield Hardware key card. The builder shows an example card when you select the existing-cylinder option. Enter all six digits, including any zeros at the beginning. A builder reference beginning KA is a set reference, not your key-cutting code.
How are the keyed-alike charges calculated?
For a new set, one keying-service charge is added for each cylinder after the first. For cylinders matched to an existing key code, one service charge is added per cylinder. Extra keys are charged separately and do not increase the number of keying-service charges. The builder calculates these charges for you; final pricing is confirmed in your basket.
How long does a bespoke set take to create?
Bespoke keyed alike sets can take up to 3 days to create. We prepare your set in-house. This is the creation time; allow additional time for delivery.
Can I order more than one set?
Yes. Add your first set to the basket, then close the basket preview and create another set on this page. Each new set receives its own reference so you can identify which cylinders, keying services and extra keys belong together.
