Everything About French Door Handles

In this article we will go through all the commonly asked questions for French door handles. Covering topics like how to replace, measure and tighten French door handles.

How to Measure French Door Handles

Measuring French door handles is really easy and no different than measuring your front and back door handles. You need to measure two things to ensure your new French door handle will be compatible.

  • Backplate Fixing Centres – This is measured from the centre to centre of the two fixing screws on the inside handle.
  • PZ Centres – This is measured from the centre of the handle lever to the centre of the circular part of the key hole.

How to Replace French Door Handles

Now let’s talk about replacing your French door handle. You will need to remove the two screws from the inside handle. You can do this with a Philips screwdriver. Once you have removed these two screws the door handle will simply pull away from the door.

Installing your new French door handle is just as simple. Remove the handle and all its accessories from the bag. Slide the spindle in to the spindle hole and slide the handle in to the door. Now put both fixings in to the inside door handle and tighten with a Philips screwdriver.

How to Tighten French Door Handles

Sometimes if your door handle is loose it may just need tighten which can be done with by tighten the screws on the internal handle with a Philips screwdriver. However, if your handle lever is loose this can not be tightened because it means the circlip which holds the lever to the backplate is damaged.

If you find this is the case, you will need to replace your handle with a new one.
